Seeds and Spaces – Form 1023 Narrative of Activities (Refined)
Overview
Seeds & Spaces is currently in creation and will be a charitable and educational organization dedicated to increasing public access to environmental education, regenerative land practices, and traditional plant knowledge. The organization operates a land-based learning environment where individuals participate in hands-on educational programs that promote ecological stewardship, food system awareness, and creative engagement with the natural world. All activities are designed to serve the general public and emphasize accessibility through free, donation-based, or sliding-scale participation.
Program Area 1: Regenerative Agriculture & Environmental Education

Demonstration gardens are being created and will be maintained as well as land-based learning areas that model regenerative agriculture, permaculture, and ecological land stewardship practices.
Educational programs will be open to the public and are designed to increase knowledge of sustainable food systems and environmental responsibility.
They will include:
- Workshops on soil health, composting, and sustainable growing practices
- Hands-on participation in seasonal planting, maintenance, and harvesting
- Public demonstrations of agroecological systems and small-scale food production
Program Area 2: Plant Education & Ethical Foraging
The organization will offer educational activities focused on plant identification, local ecosystems, and ethical foraging practices.
Activities will include:
- Guided educational walks that teach identification of native and naturalized plants
- Instruction on ecological relationships and responsible harvesting practices
- Introductory education in Western herbal traditions, including historical and cultural uses of plants
All activities are educational in nature and does not involve the diagnosis, treatment, or prevention of medical conditions.
Program Area 3: Nature-Based Creative Education
Seeds & Spaces will provide classes and workshops that integrate creativity with environmental learning.
Activities will include:
- Nature-based craft workshops such as natural dyeing, plant-based crafts, and seasonal art practices
- Educational programming that encourages observation, reflection, and creative expression in natural settings
These programs are designed to foster community connection and engagement with the environment through creative practice.
Program Area 4: Community Access & Public Benefit
The organization will prioritize accessibility and public participation through:
- Free and low-cost educational programs
- Volunteer opportunities and community workdays
- Distribution of garden produce through donation-based or subsidized models when available
Programs will open to a broad segment of the public and are designed to reduce barriers to participation in environmental education.
Facilities and Operations
Seeds & Spaces operates outdoor educational spaces, including gardens and gathering areas, that support its programming. Activities are conducted in small-group formats to maintain safety, accessibility, and quality of instruction.
Relationship with For-Profit Entity
Seeds & Spaces may operate in proximity to or in coordination with a separate, independently owned for-profit entity that conducts activities such as camping, lodging, and retail sales. The nonprofit organization maintains full independence and control over its charitable programs. Any transactions between the nonprofit and the for-profit entity are conducted at fair market value and reviewed in accordance with the organization’s conflict of interest policy to ensure that no private benefit is conferred. The organization may compensate individuals for services rendered in furtherance of its exempt purposes. All compensation will be reasonable and consistent with fair market value. The organization is governed by an independent board of directors that provides oversight of finances, programming, and compliance with charitable purposes.
